Higher School of Economics Joins the Russian Climate Partnership

Nikolay Kurichev

For our faculty, the carbon topic is a strategically important. This year we have successfully launched the Master's program "Low Carbon Development" and plan to create a center of excellence for natural and climate projects. Climate change requires a deep transformation of the economy, and this is one of the most important challenges facing the world and Russia, and we hope that the state will continue to broadcast the relevance of this agenda, and companies will reaffirm their commitment to decarbonization strategies and implement climate projects.

Natural-science, technological, legal, financial, economic, and managerial aspects are closely intertwined in climate issues, which is why specialists from various fields — geographers, international affairs specialists, lawyers, and economists — work and unite their efforts in this area at HSE. As part of the Russian Climate Partnership, we hope to establish cooperation with partner companies and work together to make this agenda visible in society, the business community and government agencies.

The development of the Partnership is an important step for the entire Russian economy. Despite the current geopolitical situation by joining the Partnership members confirm their commitment to the "green" agenda, responsible attitude to the environment and climate.

Over the 6 years of its existence, the Russian Climate Partnership has become a recognized platform for promoting a green economy. It not only established work with the expert community and included 38 Russian and foreign companies in its ranks, but also held more than 50 events aimed at sharing the experience of companies and raising awareness of key audiences about the benefits of a green economy. The members of the Partnership showed their commitment to the climate agreement adopted at the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21) and other international agreements that define the global strategy for minimizing the anthropogenic impact on climate.
