Natural and socio-economic changes taking place on our planet make managing the factors and consequences of global climate change, the environment and spatial organization of society among the most critical problems today. Changes in the natural environment and climate have an impact on the structure of land use and ecosystem productivity, as well as on human health and the spread of diseases. They also stimulate human migration and have socio-economic and political effects. Issues concerning global changes can be solved only through the synthesis of natural sciences (e.g., climatology, geo-ecology, and physical geography) and social sciences (e.g., economics, sociology, and public geography).
