The teachers and professors of the faculty develop relevant scientific areas of geographical research:
- Global climate change;
- Migration and urban systems;
- Global changes in the cryosphere and assessment of spatial changes in glaciers;
- Development of new methods in the field of visualization and organization of heterogeneous spatial data;
- Strategic and territorial planning.
Olga Solomina is the scientific leader of the faculty, is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate in the IPCC Group of Experts (IPCC, 2007), as well as one of the most cited Russian authors in 2017 according to Web of Science.
Faculty members supervise grants from the Russian Science Foundation and the RFBR, lead research teams in current geographic areas, provide scientific leadership in large Russian companies, and also represent Russian interests in the global academic arena.
The teachers and professors of the faculty are world-renowned scientists. Many of them actively cooperate with international scientific associations, leading world universities and are members and leaders of international expert groups on global natural changes.
