The Student Expedition “Geoinformation Support and Scientific Substantiation of the Development of Tourist and Recreational Activities of Protected Areas on the Example of the Tunka National Park” Was Completed

The landscape of the Tunka basin
From August 1 to August 12 the student expedition of the project “Rediscovering Russia” took place under the guidance of the head of the international laboratory of landscape ecology Robert Sandlersky and researcher Marina Tsydypova. Students of the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technologies conducted research work in the territory of the Tunka National Park in order to map the objects of its infrastructure, as well as accounting and sociological surveys of recreationists within the framework of the park's preparation of a recreational activity plan.

From January 15 to February 15, the project website is accepting applications to organise and conduct expeditions for the 2024 season as part of the Rediscovering Russia project. In 2023, 1,000 students from 157 universities took part in the expeditions.

On September 1st, a new season of the open Student Research Paper Competition (SRPC) started. This competition is aimed at developing the potential of university students who are interested in academic activities. Students, as well as 2023 graduates of Russian and foreign universities, can submit their papers for the competition until October 15th, 2023. This year SRPC turns 20 years old, throughout the competition’s history, Vadim Radaev, HSE University’s First Vice Rector, has been the chair of the organising committee. Every summer, HSE University students from various programmes have the opportunity to gain experience in their subject under real conditions. Second-year students of the Bachelor’s in Geography of Global Changes and Geoinformation Technology spent 24 days doing practical work in geoinformation technologies and spatial modelling, 17 of which were spent in the field.

First Years Complete Their First Summer Field Practice
First year students of the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technology completed a field trip to the Kursk Biosphere Station of the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The study programme included modules on geomorphology, geochemistry and soil science, geobotany, hydrometeorology, cartography and social geography.

It has been 5 months since the first HSE geography students begun their studies. Throughout these months 34 young people from all over Russia and one student from Brazil were writing courseworks, passing exams, submitting projects and obtaining practical geographical skills.
