On April 24, 2024, the second seminar "Possibilities of extracting structural parameters of forest ecosystems from photogrammetric and lidar point clouds" was held.

The Spring Series of Seminars of the International Laboratory of Landscape Ecology Continues

In the report by Natalia Telnova, Senior Lecturer of FGGT HSE, modern world experience in the use of laser scanning data and optical photogrammetry for spatially distributed assessment and mapping of above-ground phytomass and carbon stocks in forest ecosystems, as well as in applied tasks of forest inventory and forest inventory was systematized. The main methodological and technological approaches to the construction and processing of point clouds for the extraction of a correct model of tree canopy, determination and interpretation of its main structural characteristics at the level of individual trees and entire forest stands are considered. The main advantages and limitations of tree canopy model interpretation based on photogrammetric point clouds and the tested methods of overcoming these limitations are shown on the example of northern taiga forests of the Kola Peninsula.

Co-author of the report - Andrey Medvedev, Associate Professor of the Base Chair of IGRAN FGST of the National Research University Higher School of Economics, Head of the Department of Cartography and Remote Sensing of the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
