The Autumn Series of Seminars with the Participation of a Leading Foreign Specialist, the Scientific Supervisor of the Laboratory, Fedor Tatarinov, Has Ended
In the period from October 31 to December 5, 2023, the International Laboratory of Landscape Ecology held a series of seminars on the topic "Current methods and approaches in landscape and environmental research". On December 5, the final seminar on the topic "Assessment of the representativeness of the network of ecological and climatic stations in the Russian Federation" was held.
The speakers, Renata Zigangirova, an intern researcher at the laboratory, and Robert Sandlersky, head of the laboratory, talked about how climate change is stimulating the development of a network of monitoring stations in the Russian Federation. Existing ecological and climatic stations are obviously not enough to describe the full variety of natural conditions, respectively, for the development of a network of observations, the first step is to quantify how well existing stations describe the diversity of states of environmental components. The report presented the primary results of the assessment of the geographical representativeness of 29 ecological and climatic stations for climate, relief, soils and vegetation. Based on the method of random trees (Random forest), both for all stations and for each one separately, territories with similar environmental parameters and territories for which the physical and geographical conditions are representative are identified.
