The Seventh Workshop of the Autumn Series, Held at the International Laboratory of Landscape Ecology, Took Place.

At a seminar held on December 12, 2024, P.M.Shilov, Candidate of Biological Sciences, M.Sc., V.V.Dokuchaev Soil Institute, spoke about the problems of development and promising growth points in soil geophysics.

The theoretical core of soil science has developed around the formula: "factor-process-property". The central arena of this theory is the soil profile, a combination of genetic horizons and their diagnostic properties that arose due to a specific function of soil formation factors - climate, rocks, relief, biota, and time. The knowledge of soil scientists makes it possible to solve issues of genesis and geography on a local scale, but the dissemination of this knowledge on a much larger scale faces problems, primarily of a methodological nature. The accumulation of data on some factors of soil formation is literally impossible to describe empirically, therefore, new technologies for physical reconstruction and indication of soil formation conditions are being developed. In this report, the author suggests discussing the experience and promising growth points in soil geophysics, a powerful method for diagnosing the properties of soil-forming rocks, but currently still underdeveloped and unpopular among geographers and soil scientists.
